Student guide to appeals, malpractice and maladministration complaints
Ofqual have published a very helpful student guide explaining what you can do if you are not happy with your results. Please follow this link to access the Ofqual guide. The guide is summarised below but we recommend that you read the relevant sections of the Ofqual guide as well.
A Level, AS Level and GCSE grades appeals process
Centre Assessed Grades would be used for all A Levels, AS Levels and GCSE grades. The Centre Assessed Grades were determined by the staff at the College and are based upon a range of evidence. The grades went through a number of stages including moderation and administrative checking before submission to the awarding bodies.
You cannot appeal because you disagree with the grades awarded by the College. You can appeal if you believe that an administrative error has been made, for example mixing up two students with similar names.
If the College will not submit an appeal on your behalf, you can ask for a review of the decision, and someone else at the College who has not been involved in the process, will review the decision.
The deadline for appeals to awarding bodies is 17 September 2020, so you will need to contact the College as soon as you can, and before this date, to give us time to look into your concerns.
If you are still not happy with your grades, you can sit the assessments in the autumn exams series. The deadlines with awarding boards, for exam entry to the autumn exam series are listed below
A Levels and AS Levels 4 September 2020
GCSEs (except English Language and Mathematics) 18 September 2020
GCSE English Language and Mathematics 4 October 2020
You will need to contact the College before these dates regarding exam entry. The A Level and AS Level exam series runs from 5-23 October 2020. The GCSE exams series runs from 2-23 November 2020.
Vocational and Technical Qualifications appeals process
As vocational and technical qualifications are very varied, they are not all being treated in the same way and the grounds for appeal may vary. We advise you to check the website the relevant awarding organisation, as they are required to publish their individual appeals processes. You should also contact the College if you have concerns about your grade(s).
On 19 August, Pearson announced that BTEC results for level 1 and 2, due to be issued on 20 August 2020 are going reviewed , and BTEC results level 3 issued last week are going to be pulled and that there may be some revisions. We are not expecting any significant changes but it is likely that any results issued will not go down and a small number of results may go up. You are advised to wait until BTEC grades have been finalised before appealing any BTEC results.
Malpractice & maladministration complaints
If you have evidence of serious concerns about malpractice or maladministration, it may also be appropriate to bring those concerns directly to the relevant exam board.
