volunteer Fair v2Hillingdon Samaritans, Oxfam, British Transport Police and London Museum of Water and Steam were among the organisations recruiting volunteers at Uxbridge College.

They joined others at a two-day event run at the College’s two campuses, where students could find out more about opportunities to help others.

Over 150 students applied for various volunteer roles including fundraising, offering emotional support, and giving practical help in a range of ways.

Israel Thomas-Rowe, Student Support Officer - Citizenship and Volunteering Activities, said: “It was fantastic to have so many organisations from Hillingdon and beyond wanting to work with our students in the community, and of course it is a great opportunity for young people too. Volunteer roles offer so much to those taking part and can help them gain confidence, increase their employability skills and often to have a unique and personally rewarding experience.”

Other organisations taking part included: NCS, Cancer Research, Health Watch Hillingdon, Citizens Advice Bureau, Hillingdon Table Tennis Club, Handel & Hendrix Theatre, Victims Support, Hillingdon Women's Centre, Scouts Association, London Air Ambulance, Free the Children, Beanstalk Charity, Hospital Radio Hillingdon, Christ Embassy Hillingdon, and BoB (Build on Belief).
