This more advanced course is for those who are in paid work in a learning support capacity e.g. as a teaching assistant in a primary, secondary, special or hospital school. Potential candidates must be supporting teaching and learning in a school in a paid capacity for at least 10 hours a week and need to have been in that role for a minimum of six months prior to starting the course. You will need to be working in a role that allows you to demonstrate those learning outcomes relating to practice in your day to day work.
Level 3 Diploma in specialist support for teaching and learning. This qualification incorporates units from the Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and learning in Schools and requires candidates to supplement these with credits achieved from a range of specialist units, Unit 301 Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults, Unit 302Schools as organisations, Unit 303 Support learning activities. This qualification is broadly equivalent to the level 3 NVQ in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (7329) which it replaces. 32 Credits
Theory, assignment and work based observations
Achievement, taught and work based assessments. There is no exam. 85% attendance is required.
Higher Level Teaching Assistant status, Adult learning support or supporting children and young people outside the mainstream school system. Behaviour management and counselling roles, assessor roles.
