The Award course is made up of 4 mandatory units that are worth 12 credits and one optional unit.
Course units include:
- Child and young person development
- Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
- Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
- Equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people
- Schools as organisations.

Entry requirements
Students must be over 18 years old and have Level 2 English/ESOL. There is an initial literacy assessment (Reading and Writing) prior to acceptance onto the course.

Who is the course for?
This course is for those wanting to work in schools (primary, secondary, post-compulsory, volunteers and those employed in working directly with children and young people in a school setting.

Study methods
The course is made up of taught sessions and tutoring. 100% attendance is required.

How is the course assessed?
The tutor will agree appropriate evidence to show the knowledge and skills for all assessment criteria for each unit. All written work must be word processed and uploaded into an electronic portfolio (ONEFILE). There will be training to do this.
