Dedicated and determined Alice came to Uxbridge College with one clear goal: to achieve her dream of becoming a nurse.

Studying BTEC Level 3 Health and Social Care, Alice praised all the staff at Uxbridge College, from her tutors to the Learning Support team, for going above and beyond to always make her feel “safe, supported, and well cared for.”

Due to illness, Alice had to miss long periods of study. Despite being in hospital, Alice’s devotion to her course and her tutor’s support allowed her to remain involved with the course.

Alice praised her tutors, noting: “They never forgot about me or left me behind, and understood I needed time and patience to catch up. There are a lot of students at Uxbridge College, but we are all looked after as an individual.”

Through regular check ins with tutors and commitment to catching up on her studies, Alice achieved incredible results: a distinction in every unit of coursework and in her exams.

This dedication inspired her peers and tutors, who nominated Alice for her win at the Uxbridge College Student Awards, noting: "Alices positive attitude to learning, and life in general, is infectious. She is a fantastic example that success is ingrained not just in hard work, but also in resilience in the face of hardships."

“Going to college is the best thing that ever happened to me”

When asked about her time at Uxbridge College, Alice said it was the best thing that ever happened to her.

By studying at a college, Alice felt she achieved more than she ever expected, and developed crucial real-life skills – not only for her time at university, but for the rest of her life.

Inspired by her current work as a carer for a teenager with a complex learning disability, an area of work she has developed a true love and passion for, Alice aims to pursue a role in learning disability nursing and children’s nursing.

Before heading to Kingston University in 2027 to continue her studies, Alice is spending a year in the field, working as a healthcare assistant in Hillingdon hospital, continuing on the path towards her dream career.
