  • What happens at the interview?

This is an informal discussion to find out if you are suitable for the course and a chance for you to ask any questions about the course and the college.

You will be asked about your favourite subjects at school/college, your hobbies and interests and your plans for the future.

Please bring along your progress file or Record of Achievement, if you have one.

It is also an opportunity for you to tell us about any additional help you may need or if you have any disabilities.

  • What is a conditional offer?

If your interview/audition is successful, you will receive a conditional offer.

This means that as long as you meet the entry requirements for the course and attend your allotted enrolment date, then you will secure your place on your course of choice.

The course’s entry requirements can be found on the specific subject course page.

If you are not made an offer at your interview/audition, we will discuss alternative options with you.

  • What date do applications close?

We do not have an official closing date for applications, but we advise that you apply as early as possible to secure your place on the course you want to study.

  • How do I apply for an apprenticeship?

Applying for an Apprenticeship is a little different to applying for A Levels or a vocational course.

Apprenticeships are jobs with training and qualifications, so rather than applying for the course, you apply for the job.

You can find out more about Apprenticeships and apply for vacancies on our HRUC website.

Entry requirements

  • What are entry requirements?

Offers of a place and enrolment onto a course are subject to applicants meeting the relevant entry requirements, including any specified qualifications, grades, assessments, interviews, auditions, portfolios, or other criteria.

If you don’t achieve the grades or other requirements necessary for your chosen course, HRUC reserves the right to amend your enrolment and offer an alternative course or programme that is more appropriate to your qualifications, skills, and experience.

HRUC will discuss available options with you and provide appropriate advice and guidance before any such change is made.

For specific course entry requirements please visit the individual course pages.

  • Can I retake my GCSEs?

Yes. However you can only retake the English and Maths GCSE if you are under 19 years of age and don’t have a Level 4 or above qualification.

If you are doing a Level 3 course, but achieved a grade 3 or 4 for English or Maths, then you will need to redo the GCSE for that subject.

If your grade is lower than that, or you are on a Level 1 or 2 course, you may need to study a functional skills course.

We can help you find the right option depending on your specific needs and requirements.

Qualifications explained

Qualifications in detail - T-Levels

T-Levels are a qualification designed for 16-19 year olds, with a mixture of classroom learning and work placement. They follow GCSEs and are equivalent to 3 A Levels.

T-Levels are a 2-year qualification, after which you can step straight into your chosen career, an apprenticeship or a degree.

These courses have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares students for work.

  • How long does a T-Level take to complete?

A T-Level qualification is a two-year course, including the industry placement. This is a significant increase on most current technical education courses, ensuring that students gain as much experience as possible while undertaking the qualification and are well prepared for the workplace.

  • Do T-Levels replace other post-16 choices, such as A-Levels and apprenticeships

T-Levels have become another option for students looking to continue studies after GCSE alongside apprenticeships and A-Levels. As part of our wider reforms we are also reviewing qualifications at Level 3 and below to help streamline qualifications available to students at post 16.

  • How long is the industry placement?

An industry placement lasts around 45 days, undertaken as a block or as individual days. The specific length of the placement and when it will take place will differ depending on your T-Level.

  • Is this the right path for me?

T-Levels are ideal if you have completed your GCSEs and want to get the knowledge and experience needed to get a skilled job.

  • How are T-Levels graded?

Students who complete their T-Level will receive an overall grade of pass, merit, distinction or distinction*. They will earn a nationally recognised certificate which will show their overall grade and a breakdown of what they have achieved.

    The T-Level certificate will include:

    • An overall grade for the T-Level, shown as pass, merit, distinction or distinction*
    • A separate grade for the core component, using A* to E
    • A separate grade for each occupational specialism, shown as pass, merit or distinction.

It will also include confirmation that the student has:

    • Met the minimum requirements for Maths and English qualifications
    • Completed the industry placement
    • Met any additional mandatory requirements.

A student’s overall T-Level grade will be worked out from the grades they achieved on the core component and the occupational specialism(s).

Students who do not pass all elements of their T-Level will get a T-Level statement of achievement which will show the elements they have completed.

  • Can I go to university after a T-Level?

T-Levels will provide several progression options to students. These include skilled employment, an apprenticeship and higher education.

To help T-Level students get into higher education, UCAS tariff points will be allocated to T-Levels.

UCAS is the organisation that manages student applications for Higher Education.

UCAS points will only be allocated to the overall T-Level grade. Students must achieve at least an overall pass grade to receive UCAS points.

  • Will they be recognised by employers?

T-Levels are designed with businesses and employers to make sure you have the skills and knowledge they are looking for in an employee.

  • What qualifications do I need to be able to study a T-Level?

Specific entry requirements are listed on the course pages. Do a search for T-levels to find a course that may suit you.

  • Are T-Levels better than apprenticeships?

T-Levels will be based on the same high standards as apprenticeships, designed by employers and approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education.

Apprenticeships are different in that they are typically 80% on-the-job training and 20% in the classroom learning, and are more suited to students who know what occupation they see themselves working in, want to earn a wage, learn at the same time and are ready to enter the workforce at age 16.

  • Do you have any other useful information on T-Levels?

Enrolment

Check out our FAQs below which we hope will answer some of your questions about enrolment, however if you require further information please feel free to get in touch.

  • When is the College open for enrolment?

Please check the enrolment page for the opening times for each college and campus.

  • Do you take late enrolments?

If you have applied for a full-time course online from mid-July onwards please come into the College to complete your enrolment after the 24 August. See our Enrolment page for opening times.

  • What is enrolment

Enrolment is when you come into college to:

    • Provide your exam results
    • Confirm your place on your chosen course
    • Get your student card and lanyard
    • Receive your timetable.

For many of our students you should be able to complete most of the process on line.

You should have received a “Getting Ready for College” email with further instructions. Some students have been invited to enrol entirely online as part of a pilot – if you have been selected for this then you would have also received an “Enrol Online” email.

Check your junk/spam folders if you’ve not had any emails from us.

Enrolment is the final stage of the application process and will take place from GCSE results day onwards.

During your Enrolment session, we add your details to the system to make you an official Harrow, Richmond or Uxbridge College student and finalising your place at the College.

Details about Enrolment will be sent to you via email in late-July/early-August. If possible, we ask that you try to avoid booking any holidays from GCSE results day onwards to be available to complete your enrolment process.

You can also download our app to receive more information about the college, enrolment, and what happens next.

  • What happens on enrolment days?

On Enrolment days staff will be available to help with any other questions you may have, including:

    • Bursaries and financial support, including information on bus passes
    • Career support
    • Learning support
    • Questions about college life
    • Advice and guidance if you’ve changed your mind.

  • What do I bring with me to enrolment?

When you come into one of our Colleges during enrolment please make sure to bring the following:

    • Copies of your exam results/ certificates, if you have these
    • A form of photo identification (passport, provisional or full driving licence) or UK birth certificate.  If you do not have one of these forms of ID then bring a bank card or something similar with your name on it
    • Residency/visa documents (if applicable)
    • If you became a resident in the UK/EU/EEA after 1st September 2023, we will need to see either your passport, visa documents, residency permit or ARC card
    • For EU/EEA Nationals – we will need confirmation of your settled/pre-settled status/sharecode

If you are 19 years old or over on 31st August 2026:

We may be able to assist with the fees for your course. To be eligible for this support you will need to be in receipt of an eligible benefit, and be able to provide evidence, which must be in your name and dated within the last 3 months.

Please bring along copies of any benefit letters or statements (or online evidence) and we may be able to reduce your fees.

Please see our Fees and Financial Support page for further information.

  • What does ‘oversubscribed courses will be enrolling by invite first’ mean?

The majority of courses have plenty of spaces and we can add groups if courses become oversubscribed. However, in some cases we are limited by things like workshop space, health and safety and specialist teaching staff, and this means we have to prioritise entry to the course.

Throughout the year, you can apply for our courses and during this process you may be offered a place on the course.

An offer means that, providing you meet the entry criteria, you are guaranteed that place.

Those students will then be invited to enrol over the first 3 days of Enrolment.

From Tuesday 25 August, if spaces are still available, these will be open to anyone else. If you haven’t already applied and had an offer, we would suggest coming in to enrol from Tuesday 25 August, or contacting us in advance to check if the course you want to join is oversubscribed.

  • Is there space still on the course I am interested in?

Student support will usually have information on what courses are closed once they have reached their capacity.

We would advise you to come into the college so we can discuss alternative course options.

  • I didn’t get into the course I wanted, what do I do?

Don’t worry. Please come in during the enrolment period and speak with one of our helpful Student Support Team to find an alternative course that will suit you.

  • Can I transfer from one College to another in HRUC?

This will depend on the reason you wish to transfer and if the same units are being offered for an equivalent course.

Our curriculum staff will need to confirm and advise you on this.

Please contact the College to discuss this further:

If you have any queries, please contact our friendly Admissions Team: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

  • Will I receive any communication about enrolment from the College?

Yes, if you have made an application, we will be in touch with you with your next steps.

  • I’m not sure what subject/s I’d like to study?

Our friendly and supportive Careers Team are available during enrolment and will be able to help with any queries.

Our Senior Careers Advisor at Uxbridge College is Dorothy Ranson.

  • What is the process for students enrolling with EHCPs?

If you have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP), please ask your SEND Officer at your Local Authority to forward your plan to us as soon as possible.

Any plans should be sent to our Inclusive Learning Team Leader in the Inclusive Learning Support department who will then be able to help you.

  • I've not applied for a course – can I still enrol?

If you have not applied for a place with us, you can still make an application. You can browse our courses by clicking here and apply on the course page that you want to study.

  • I’ve changed my mind about the course I want to study, can I choose something else?

Come into the College and our Student Support Team can assist you with finding the right course for you.

  • I studied overseas – will my overseas qualifications be OK for the course?

If your qualifications are not GCSEs or iGCSEs then we will need you to acquire a Statement of Comparability from ENIC. The College has access to ENIC so we will be able to get a comparison for you. Just come along with all your overseas qualifications.

  • I am already a student at the College but want to progress to the next level do I need to apply again?

Yes, all students have to re-enrol for each year and have an application in the system.

As a current student you should have had a progression meeting with your tutor to discuss your options.

In the vast majority of cases, the college has already enrolled you to the next level of your course.

  • When will I start at the College after I have enrolled?

Term starts on Tuesday 1 September. You will receive further information once you are fully enrolled with your specific course start date/time.

  • I am going away on holiday and will be overseas can I still enrol online?

If you’ve received an invitation as part of a pilot scheme to enrol online, then yes. Otherwise, you would need to come in to college at the first available opportunity after GCSE results day on the 20 August.

We advise not to go on holiday from the end of August to September as you need to be available to come into college to complete your enrolment and start your course in September.

  • Can a family member enrol for me?

Unfortunately not. Each student must be present for enrolment as they will need to be available for interview and get a photo ID. However, if a family member needs to assist you then bring them along for support.

  • What is induction week? (Welcome Week)

This is our ‘Welcome Week’ where you will:

    • Meet your tutors
    • Receive your timetable
    • See where you are going to be studying
    • Check out the campus facilities
    • Learn how to log in to the College computers.

  • What does HNC and HND mean?

Read about the benefits and how to get involved on our dedicated Higher Education page

  • Can I progress on to university after doing a higher education course?

Our courses are widely recognised self-contained qualifications. However, they come with the option to progress to a full degree at a university.

For example, after completing a Level 5 HND, you could top up that qualification at a university to a Level 6, joining for just the final year or two.

This usually works out as a cost-effective way to gain a full degree.

  • What are the entry requirements for an HNC or HND?

Higher education courses generally require you to have Level 3 (A Level or equivalent) qualifications although your occupational experience may be taken into account.

  • Can I get financial support while studying a Level 4 or 5 course?

Students studying on our Level 4 and 5 courses may be eligible to apply for a student loan to cover the cost of their tuition fees and sometimes you can also borrow money to help with living costs.

Loans are repaid once you are working and earning a certain amount. Eligibility criteria applies and please click this link to find out more about student finance.

You will not need to repay DSAs.

Read the guidance we provide on our Higher Education page to understand what is on offer and what the application process involves.

  • Are there policies and/or terms and conditions where I can find out more about becoming an HE student?
