Deaf Support offers a cross college service in Hayes and Uxbridge to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students on mainstream courses.
The centre is staffed by a team of professional and qualified Communication Support Workers (CSW) who can support you on your course and ensure you have full access to the curriculum.
They are all fluent in British Sign Language (BSL) and will also provide note taking support.
Support may be:
- In class support with a Communication Support Worker (CSW) or Notetaker
- One to one lesson with a CSW - an extra lesson on your timetable with a CSW, to help you with assignment/handout translations from English to BSL, project research, literacy support or any other help you may need for your college work.
- Extra time and special arrangements for exams
The team also provides support to academic and other support staff in how to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students and to raise deaf awareness across the college with staff and students.
Have a look at our video, featuring our deaf students who explain how they benefit from the College's support. Thanks too to our media students who filmed it!
