Growing up in a family passionate about cookery, from a young age, Johan was inspired by his uncles' family run business. Since then, his natural talent and dedication to his craft have continued to impress tutors and diners alike.

Studying a Level 2 Commis Chef Apprenticeship at Uxbridge College, Johan furthered the foundations of his craft, learning elements previously unknown to him, such as French terminology.

Tireless hard work

Alongside his Hospitality tutors, Johan praised the English and Maths team, who all worked to support him in completing his English and Maths GCSEs. This was something he never thought possible, but after tireless hard work alongside his apprenticeship, Johan achieved full marks in both English and Maths.

This role resulted in him cooking and preparing food for a number of high-profile guests, including the president of France.

“I’m always pushing myself to evolve and break new ground”

Born in Goa and raised in London, Johan credits the rich blend of culture and his curiosity for global flavours in shaping his cooking style: “For me, food is a creative outlet, where precision meets passion. I love crafting dishes that are bold, balanced, and rooted in storytelling.”

Crowned “Young Chef” at the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Great Britain Young Professional Awards, Johan continues to soar, telling us: “That milestone gave me new momentum, and I’m now channelling it into fresh projects. I’m always pushing myself to evolve and break new ground in the kitchen.”

Since then, Johan has competed across Europe, and remains dedicated to developing his craft, hoping to open his own restaurant someday.
