A-Levels and GCSEs

Normally five subjects including English and maths are taken from the following:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • English
  • English literature
  • History
  • Mathematics
  • Media
  • Physics
  • Sociology
  • Statistics.
  • Entry requirements

Applicants must have a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 3 (grade D) or above, including English and Maths.
Applicants who do not hold qualifications from a recognised UK awarding body, such as those who have studied overseas, been home-schooled, or were unable to sit exams due to illness, will be required to take the Sixth Form GCSE Entry Test in English, Maths, and Science (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics).

Applicants who have already taken GCSEs but have not achieved the required grades will not be referred for the entry test. Instead, they will be directed to our Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) service or advised on a more suitable alternative course within the college.

Successful applicants will be required to study five subjects from the approved list as part of their GCSE re-take programme.

  • Who is the course for?

Our GCSE programme is designed for students who may wish to improve their existing grades and study additional subjects, or for those who have not had the opportunity to sit for GCSEs.

  • How is the course assessed?

GCSEs are assessed by external examinations at the end of the year, combined with internal assessments in some subjects.

  • Where Next – Job Opportunities

Achieving GCSEs, especially English and mathematics, improves the chance of employment or gaining an apprenticeship.

  • Where Next – Further Studies

A Levels or Level 3 programme. Students who have already gained good passes for their GCSEs should normally look to progress to a Level 3 course instead of a re-take course at Level 2.
