  • Entry requirements

    Students typically need:

    • GCSE English and Maths (grades 9–4/C and above) plus
    • 96 UCAS points from A Level or BTEC business related studies, though lower qualifications may be accepted with strong references or completion of an Access to HE Business course.

      A tutor reference and an interview are required.

      International students are welcome, but non native English speakers must demonstrate English proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.0 (minimum 5.5 in each skill).
  • Who is the course for?

    This course is ideal for learners aiming for careers across various business functions such as Marketing, HR, Finance, and related fields. It also serves as a pathway for students wishing to progress to the final year of a university degree.

  • Study methods

    The HND requires 1,200 hours of Total Qualification Time, combining taught sessions and independent learning.

    • Around 40% (480 hours) is delivered on campus through lectures and workshops
    • Approximately 15 hours per week, split between taught lessons and supported workshop research.
    • The remaining 60% (720 hours) is dedicated to independent study, including assignments, home study, and use of the Learning Resource Centre.
  • How is the course assessed?

    The HND is assessed entirely through coursework, with one Pearson set research project making up 12.5% of the overall grade.

    This project includes timetabled sessions (50%) and independent study (50%), with Pearson supplying the project theme and only limited guidance available throughout.

    It is an open book, non exam unit, that must be completed by the end of the programme.

      For students to be eligible for funding from Student Finance England, they must be studying on an eligible course at a provider registered with the Office for Students (OfS). The OfS is the new independent regulator for higher education in England and all higher education providers need to register with the OfS for their students to be eligible for student support in the 2024-25 academic year.     The Level 5 HND in Business is equivalent to the first two years of a UK bachelor’s degree, enabling learners to progress to a one year BA (Hons) top up degree at universities in the UK, Europe, or internationally.

    Completion of the HND also opens pathways into specialist business degrees such as:

    • Business Management
    • Marketing
    • Human Resources
    • Finance
    • International Business, and related fields.
  • Fees
    • Home student fee: £6,000

    • International student fee: £8,625. There is also a registration fee for international students of £125.

      The fees quoted are for one year of study and include tuition, exam fee, materials, ID card (which gives access to the college and facilities e.g. library) and college registration.

      Fees will be no higher than those published, subject to an Access and Participation Plan being approved by the Office for Students.

      Whether you pay a 'home' or 'overseas' fee depends on whether you meet certain criteria. Harrow, Richmond and Uxbridge Colleges (HRUC) does not create the criteria for fee status. The fee status criteria is provided in regulations and guidance, published by the government.
