Are you looking for an introduction to the world of digital technology and information technology?

This one-year programme is designed to help you develop the essential knowledge, practical skills and confidence needed to progress onto Level 3 courses, apprenticeships or entry-level roles within the digital sector.

Throughout the course, you will explore how technology is used to support individuals, businesses and organisations in everyday life.

You will develop practical skills in using digital systems, working with data, creating digital solutions and understanding how technology can be used safely and securely.

  • Entry requirements

    You will need:

    • Four GCSEs at Grade 3/D or above, including English Language and Mathematics; or
    • A relevant Level 1 qualification and a positive reference.

      Students should have an interest in technology and a willingness to develop their digital, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Who is the course for?

    This programme is ideal for students who:

    • Want to develop their confidence and skills in Information Technology
    • Are interested in technology but are not yet ready for a Level 3 programme
    • Enjoy practical learning and problem-solving activities
    • Want to explore a variety of digital disciplines before choosing a specialist pathway
    • Are considering future careers in cyber security, artificial intelligence, data analysis or other digital industries
    • Wish to progress to a Level 3 Computing, Information Technology or Digital programme

      No previous IT experience is required. Enthusiasm, curiosity and a willingness to learn are the most important qualities for success on this course.
  • Study methods

    Teaching is delivered through a combination of:

    • Classroom-based lessons
    • Practical workshops
    • Digital projects and coursework
    • Individual and group activities.

      Students will also be expected to complete independent study outside of lessons to help build their digital skills and prepare for assessments.

    Assessment methods include:

    • Internally assessed coursework assignments
    • Externally assessed examinations
    • Presentations and demonstrations.

      Assessment focuses on developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for progression into further study and the modern digital workplace.
