Over the two years you will take part in performances as an instrumentalist. Performance on an instrument is a major part of becoming a good music producer and this will also help to develop your collaborative and musical communication skills as well as confidence as a musician.
You will also use Logic Pro, Ableton Live and Protools as your three main DAW's.
This experience will prepare you for further study at HE level as a music producer.

Entry requirements
5 GCSE's grade 9-4 (grade C and above), preferably including both English and Maths. Alternatively a relevant Level 2 Music qualification at Merit or above. You will be invited for an interview and audition. This course requires prior experience of playing an instrument to a good performance standard.

Who is the course for?
This course is for singers, drummers, guitarists, bassists, keyboard players and those who play any other instrument and are interested in producing music.
Other instrumentalists are also welcomed!

In this UAL course, we look at the skills and strengths that you bring and develop them, helping you to reach your full potential, and preparing you in becoming a well rounded musician, ready to progress to the Extended Diploma course the following year, which will prepare you in becoming a musical artist in your own right. -
Study methods
The aim is to provide a good theoretical and practical understanding of music technology. This includes sound creation, sampling, music sequencing, recording techniques and sound operations. You will collaborate with others to create (at least) an album's worth of material over the two years. You will continue to develop as an instrumentalist and as a performer. In addition to College attendance, students must be prepared to commit at least five hours study time per week.

How is the course assessed?
Over the two years you will study 13 units. Unit themes are designed in collaboration with employers and partners in the industry and projects are designed to give a real-world experience, in order to prepare you for employment in the industry. Each unit is assessed through practical assignments and project work. You will be expected to be self-reflective and able to evaluate and critique your work and others'. A good level of written work is expected as you will need to produce word processed reports and evaluations.

Where Next – Job Opportunities
Students can work as a sound engineer, studio technician, or move into an educational role. Many music production students continue to work in bands and work as performers as well as their production roles in the industry.
