  • Entry requirements

A minimum of four GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including English and Maths, or an equivalent Level 2 qualification.

Applicants should normally hold a relevant Level 3 qualification (such as a BTEC Extended Diploma or A-levels), or have relevant industry experience assessed as equivalent.

Mature applicants without formal qualifications but with substantial hospitality work experience may also be considered through recognition of prior learning (RPL).

  • Who is the course for?

The BTEC Higher National Certificate in Hospitality Management is aimed at students wanting to continue their education through applied learning.

Higher Nationals provide a wide-ranging study of the hospitality industry and are designed for students who wish to pursue or advance their career in the hospitality sector.

In addition to the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin the study of hospitality, Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals in Hospitality Management give students experience of the breadth and depth of the sector that will prepare them for further study or training.

  • Study methods

The course is delivered through a blended and applied learning approach designed to reflect real hospitality industry practice.

    Teaching methods include:

    • Lectures
    • Interactive classroom discussions
    • Case studies
    • Group work
    • Presentations
    • Research-based assignments.

Learning is supported through digital platforms such as Microsoft Teams, where students access unit materials, assignment briefs, and tutor guidance, alongside Turnitin for academic skills development and feedback.

Students undertake a combination of guided learning hours with tutors and structured independent study, including research, self-directed learning, and assignment preparation.

Draft feedback is built into the assessment process to support progression and achievement. The emphasis is on practical application, critical thinking, problem-solving, and professional communication skills, ensuring students are well prepared for both employment and further study in hospitality management.

The course is delivered on a full-time basis across the academic year, with a mix of timetabled teaching days and independent study. Teaching typically takes place during weekday hours. Exact course days and timetables are confirmed at enrolment.
  • How is the course assessed?

The course is assessed primarily through internally set, coursework-based assignments for each unit, rather than formal exams.
