Motor Vehicle Maintenance

This is a commercial course for adults aged 19 years or over. All candidates pay full fees and there is no funding or concessions.

This course is delivered on Wednesdays 18:00 – 21:00.
There will also be a practical assessment on one Saturday during the hours of 09:00 – 16:00.

Although not currently a legal requirement to prove competence when working on or near electric/hybrid vehicles, discussions are taking place to make this a legal requirement.

This qualification covers the competence and knowledge to isolate and re-energise an electric vehicle as well as safe working practices and essential knowledge of the hazards associated with electric vehicles.

  • Understand the differences between the different types of electric vehicles and their electrical systems (theory)
  • Understand the legislative and workplace procedures that should be adhered to when isolating and re-energising high voltage systems in an electric vehicle (theory)
  • Understand the hazards associated with working on or around electric vehicles (theory)
  • Understand how to isolate and re-energise electric vehicle high voltage systems (theory)
  • Skills in isolating and re-energising electric vehicle high voltage systems (practical).
  • Entry requirements

    There are no entry requirements for this course but it is expected that candidates have a basic knowledge of working on cars, this can be as experience in a garage or work carried out on your own car. There will be a short written test to assess you suitability for the course.

    This qualification is designed for people who work on or near electric vehicles and who require the knowledge and skills to correctly and safely isolate and re-energise an electric vehicle.

    Multiple-choice online test (45 mins) and practical assessment.

    As per our fees policy: ‘Fee refunds for commercial courses will not be awarded after two weeks before the scheduled start date of the course unless the College cancels the course.’ Certification is based upon the achievement of passing the course content and paying the fees in full.

    Upon successful completion of this course students can go on to C&G 7290-03 Level 3 Award in Component Removal and Replacement in Electric and Hybrid Vehicles.
