The Business Club, which offers networking, employment and training opportunities for members, has recently celebrated two events.A networking and knowledge group for West London businesses has celebrated two recent events – its own first anniversary and National Apprenticeship week.
The two events held by The Business Club, which is run by Uxbridge College and Uxbridge Forward, took place at The Skills Store. The Skills Store is based in central Uxbridge in The Mall shopping centre, and offers advice and information on recruitment and training.
The Club gives business people a chance to meet and attend seminars and workshops, recently on subjects including Employment Law and Social Networking, Business Coaching & Mentoring and Visual Merchandising (retail).
During its first year the club has signed up 18 members from the local business community including IBB, Metro Bank, Bird & Lovibond, The Chimes, The Mall, PPI Recruitment, Boville Wrights, and Active Cleaning.
During National Apprenticeship Week, the event focused on the financial and professional rewards of taking on an apprentice. Mr Sebastian from Sebastian & Daughters chartered accountants, based in Hounslow, shared his experience of how hiring an apprentice had benefited his business. The company’s apprentice, Adam Milner, who is completing his accountancy qualification through Uxbridge College, talked about how his apprenticeship has enabled him to work professionally while achieving a recognised qualification.
Anne McCaffrey, from the National Apprenticeship Service, spoke on the importance of apprenticeships, qualifications structure and the way in which industry is embracing apprenticeships more than ever.
Employers who attended the apprenticeship event included Reed in Partnership, PPI Recruitment, DASH, Fresh Consulting, Prontaprint and Ealing Borough Council.
Mike Crane, Business Development Manager for Uxbridge Forward, said: “These celebrations were just two examples of the success of the Business Club in its first year. It has been really encouraging to see the Club steadily growing and to hear from members how beneficial it is to be part of it. The Club offers an incredible opportunity for businesses to network, build positive relationships and learn more about the services available close at hand. Hopefully it will continue to grow and see numbers increase throughout 2013.”
