Uxbridge College recently marked a joyful and inspiring Culture Week, hosting a series of Culture Days across its Hayes and Uxbridge Campuses. The week-long celebration brought students and staff together in a colourful showcase of global heritage, promoting unity, pride, and mutual respect across the college community.
The festivities began at the Hayes Campus, which was transformed into a vibrant hub of cultural expression. Students proudly shared their traditions through traditional dress, cultural displays, music, and interactive activities. Stalls brimmed with homemade posters, national flags, sweets, artwork, and unique items representing a wide range of countries and cultures.
In the lead-up to the day, a Creative Poster Competition invited students to reflect on their heritage and visually express their cultural identity. The winning poster, chosen for its colour, creativity, and cultural insight, was unveiled at the event and admired by all.
Meanwhile, over at the Uxbridge Campus, Culture Week continued with multiple events held on different days, each celebrating the diverse backgrounds of students from across the college. From traditional dishes to handmade decorations, the campus was alive with creativity and connection. Students were invited to host their own cultural stalls, share symbolic items, and dress in traditional attire, contributing to the inclusive and celebratory atmosphere.
A highlight of the week was the Health and Social Care (HSC) Culture Day, which offered a deeply personal and empowering experience for students in the department. The event was entirely student-led, with learners taking charge of every detail—from planning and promotion to fashion showcases and refreshments.
Maria Roye, Head of School for Health and Social Care and Creative Arts, reflected on the event:
“It was a fantastic opportunity for all of our HSC learners to come together and celebrate different cultures and their diversity. It was so pleasing to see them singing, dancing, and just enjoying their time and the college.”
Rose Etim-Ibom, Section Manager for Health and Social Care, shared:
“Our students were the heart and soul of the occasion. They organised everything — from colourful traditional dress and uplifting music to delicious refreshments and dynamic entertainment. It was a joyful celebration of the cultures we represent.”
The HSC Culture Day also served as a moment of recognition, with an awards ceremony celebrating student achievement in attendance, placements, behaviour, and outstanding coursework. Staff joined in the spirit by wearing traditional dress, symbolising unity and shared pride in the department's cultural diversity.
From start to finish, Uxbridge College’s Culture Week was a heartfelt tribute to the backgrounds, stories, and traditions that make up its diverse student body. Through food, fashion, music, and meaningful conversations, the week inspired deeper connections and celebrated the power of inclusion - making it a memorable success across every campus.
