Festival of Culture Brings Unity to Uxbridge College
A celebration of the diverse talent and many cultures at Uxbridge College included belly dancing, Indian head
massage, African and Bangra drumming, Somalian and Bollywood dancing, a Chinese lion, and performances inspired by gender and nationality.
The event, Unity 2014, which took place over three days at the College’s Hayes and Uxbridge campuses brought
together student and professional performers and entertainers.
Students performed dance and musical pieces, and various skits including on the TOWIE characters, Sacha Baron Cohen’s Kazakhstani creation Borat, and Brendan O’Carroll’s Irish matriach Mrs Brown. Others cooked and served foods from around the world, offered beauty treatments and massage, sold cakes for charity and ran information stalls about their groups and activities.
Adele Carby, Senior Student Liaison Officer, said: “This is the third year we have run this event and it gets bigger and better each time. It’s a brilliant opportunity for our performing arts students to bring their original work into the limelight and for our chefs, beauty therapists and other talented people to share their skills. It was great to see how the students compared to the professionals – you could hardly tell the difference with some of them!”
