GCSEs/Functional Skills English & Maths

You will work on studying maths problems set in practical and real-life contexts. You will be identifying, analysing and interpreting mathematical information within a variety of situations. This will involve all areas of maths, including:

  • Number
  • Measure, Shape and Space
  • Handling Data.
  • Entry requirements

    There are no formal entry requirements but we will assess your level of English and Maths to make sure you are working at Entry Level 3 or above. This is to ensure you are able to meet the course requirements.

  • Who is the course for?

    These are part-time courses suitable for adults (over 19 years old) that have been out of full-time education. Functional Skills is for students who need to gain a solid understanding of the basic mathematical skills needed for further study, the workplace or everyday life. Everyday decisions are often based on mathematical information. Developing your maths skills will help you to make the best choices.

  • Study methods

    The course is delivered over 27 weeks of classroom taught lessons for 2 hours a week. You will be expected to combine this with a further 2 hours of guided study a week. You will take an exam in March and again in June if you do not pass. This will involve both non-calculator and calculator papers.

  • How is the course assessed?

    There are two chances to take the exam: in March and June.
    The exams are:

    • Non-calculator (25%) - 25 minutes
    • Calculator (75%) - 1 hour and a half.

    This course runs on the Uxbridge Campus from 6-8pm on Thursday evenings.
