Health and Social Care students learned more about applying their skills in the real world with a visit from a care home manager.
The trainees got a briefing from Wendy Bristow, who manages Blenheim Care Centre in Ickenham, a residential home for elderly and disabled people.
They looked at how the life experiences of a resident, ‘Kathy’, might have shaped her and the kind of care she requires as she gets older.
Around 40 students on the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care took part, and can use successfully completed assignments as part of their coursework.
Sarah Hill, Health and Social Care Lecturer, said: “These students have really benefitted from working with someone with such wide-ranging experience in the sector. Each year a number of our students progress to various roles in residential and care homes, as well as on to higher courses such as degrees, and this event helped each of them build their skills and develop a broader perspective. This has been so successful we are looking at working with other employers so students can use more real life case studies in their learning.”
The presentation was one of a number of ‘branded assignments’ for students which the College runs in partnership with businesses from the West London area.
