Students at Uxbridge College have been celebrating their achievements in this year’s A Levels.
Among the individual success stories were:
Mohammed Zeeshan who achieved A grades in Maths, Further Maths, Biology and Chemistry. Mohammed, who spent time working in retail before coming back to college, hopes to study medicine after taking a year out.
Amy Lam (18), who achieved three A levels despite giving birth during the exam period and having to sit her final paper at home the day after her daughter was born. Amy gave birth to Maya Bella on 16 June and sat her final Law paper at home on the 17th with an invigilator, having taken her Sociology and Psychology papers at college. She plans to study nursing at university after a year out.
Kirsty Jones (18), who is going to Aberystwyth University to study Psychology, achieved Bs in Psychology and English Literature and a C in Sociology despite having missed two years of school. Kirsty, who did both her GCSEs and A levels at Uxbridge College, said: “I am over the moon. I’ve got better grades than I expected and I am so excited to be going to university – a while ago I didn’t even think I’d get GCSEs!” Alison Jones, Kirsty’s mum, said: “It’s fantastic, she’s worked so hard and I am so proud of her. The College has been amazing too and really supported her.”
Facts and figures for A levels (A2) for Uxbridge College for 2014 included:
* 96% overall pass rate
* 100% pass rate in 9 out of 14 subjects - Further Maths, Physics, ICT, Media Studies, Government & Politics, Sociology, English Language & Literature, English Literature, Business Studies.
Ray Ferris, Curriculum Director at Uxbridge College, said: “Yet again Uxbridge College is seeing some terrific individual achievements and this year’s results bear witness to how much progress students make here. People may be going on to their first choice of university, to alternative study or to work, and it is great to be supporting such a diverse range of options. Many of our level three vocational courses – which are equivalent to A levels - also had 100% pass rates and strong high grade rates, enabling these students to progress to Higher Education or jobs of their choice too. We are really proud at Uxbridge College to offer people opportunities and support whatever their starting point and whatever challenges face them during their studies. Congratulations to everyone.”
