Students from across our Creative Arts courses came together to showcase their creativity, skills and hard work at this year’s End of Year Exhibition and Fashion Show.
The event celebrated students from Art and Design, Fashion and Media courses, giving them the chance to share their ideas, creativity and progress with staff, friends and family.
It was also a great opportunity for students to reflect on everything they had achieved and how far they had developed during their studies.
Creativity in all shapes and colours
The exhibition featured a wide variety of work, showcasing our talented students.
Displays included:
- 2D and 3D art
- Installations
- Sculptures
- Architectural maquettes
- Graphics
- Posters and films
- Fashion garments
- Textile designs
- Fashion retail concepts, including a prototype magazine.
Level 3 Art Lecturer Ines Rebelo commented, “The exhibition celebrated the creativity and ingenuity of students in all shapes and colours. It is brilliant to experience the panoramic view full of complex interests that our students have articulated, with much emotional depth, coming together in one venue.
The Show also marks a time of transition between programmes of study or for progression directly into the creative industries; it is an event to celebrate, often very memorable for everyone involved, following an intense period of studio practice and reflective development.”
Pushing boundaries
Susan Acton, Level 2 Art Course Leader, commented, “Many students pushed boundaries, and viewers were invited to engage with their personal stories and discover the meaningful narratives, woven throughout the pieces; an example is the work of Edward Cusselle, who used the theme of ‘Insomnia’ for his final pieces. He explains, ‘I have shown what it feels like to experience lack of sleep visually’.
Riley Varga evidenced environmental awareness in his thought-provoking piece ‘There is NO Planet B’, which shows planet Earth in a dystopian future.
Beverley Acquah explored the past and present of her African heritage in her triptych of masks and commented, “I have shown three aspects of Africa, tribal, fashion and Cubist art inspired by Picasso’s African period”. Her award-winning piece will feature in the ‘Origins Exhibition’ in the ‘Mall Gallery’, London, later this month.
Our Level 1 Art, Design and Media students showed all types of materials and techniques. Highlights included exciting portraits, graphic jackets and the fantastic collection of ceramic pieces, presented in a range of vibrant colours.
Fashion, innovation and industry in focus
Art and Design Course Team Leader Roumen Velitchkov commented, “The ‘Fashion Business’ outcomes reflect all aspects of the industry including design, visual merchandising and marketing. The work showed imagination, creativity, conceptual depth and technical skills, striking a balance between professional prestige and youthful energy.”
Original designs on the runway
One of the highlights was the Fashion Show, where students proudly presented their own original designs on the runway, bringing their ideas to life and showing the skills they had developed throughout their courses.
When asked about her thoughts on the event, Kiran Khan, Fashion Course Leader, said, “The students worked incredibly hard alongside their tutors, technicians, and media staff to present their highly imaginative garments to a professional standard. Their individual talents and creativity were showcased through stunning models on the catwalk, through a well organised show, reflecting their innovations, dedication, and teamwork that made the event such a success.”
Celebrating student achievement
Overall, the event gave students a brilliant platform to showcase their work and gain confidence, presenting it to a wider audience.
It was a celebration of their passion, creativity, and dedication to becoming future artists, designers, and filmmakers.
