On Thursday 2 July, Uxbridge College showcased the achievements of its extraordinary students, celebrating and acknowledging their successes at the annual Student Awards ceremony, held for the first time at our fantastic Uxbridge College campus.

Over 150 guests attended the event hosted by Clive Hodge, Principal of Uxbridge College, including The Worshipful Mayor of the London Borough of Hillingdon, Councillor Reeta Chamdal, as well as students, parents, staff and other members of the local community.

What a fabulous start!

The awards opened with a spectacular performance from 50 of our very own Uxbridge College students that study acting, music and dance as part of our Praxis Performing Arts courses.

Showcasing their skills with a medley from The Great Gatsby, the performance featured our amazing Level 1, 2 and 3 students who really set the scene for a wonderful evening!

Our inspirational guest speaker: Anthony Bennett

We were delighted to welcome Anthony Bennett to the College, who shared his remarkable journey with us. After surviving a life-threatening illness that left him with just a 10% chance of survival, Anthony transformed his remarkable recovery into a mission to inspire others.

He went on to help raise £7.5 million for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity, supporting the development of a new cardiac wing, and was recognised in the 'Independent on Sunday's Happy List' for his positive impact.

Anthony shares his story with audiences around the world, encouraging resilience, determination and the confidence to overcome adversity and his message was truly inspiring.

Celebrating our students’ achievements

We celebrated the amazing achievements of 28 outstanding students, who between them received two types of awards; curriculum area awards and cross-college awards. Our winners were recognised for a range of reasons including academic achievement, overcoming personal challenges and embracing student life and all it can bring.

As well as curriculum awards the Greatest Contribution to College Life award went to three students -  Saubana Zaman, Shaun Rodrigues and Larence Cardoso – who were recognised for their outstanding and consistent support during weekly interview sessions for prospective students. They demonstrated exceptional reliability,  presented themselves with pride and played a key role in creating a welcoming experience for applicants and their families.

Prestigious Principal’s Award winner

The final, and one of the evening's most prestigious accolades, Principal’s Award was presented by The Worshipful Mayor Councillor Reeta Chamdal, to Level 3 Health and Social Care student Nigel Nkomo.

Nigel's journey is one of resilience, leadership and service.

After moving to the UK from Zimbabwe, he embraced the challenges of a new country, culture and education system, achieving outstanding academic success through hard work and determination.

Beyond college, his work with the NHS Cadet programme, an international placement in South Africa and his support for the Ayanda Foundation Trust demonstrate his commitment to making a positive difference. Nigel is an inspiring role model whose achievements reflect not only academic excellence, but also the values of service, resilience and community.

When asked how he felt receiving this award he commented: “To be honest, I do not even know how I feel right now! I am very happy to receive this award as my hard work has paid off and the teachers have recognised me. One of my proud achievements since being at Uxbridge College is my role as a Student Rep where I was able to help students with their studies as well as finding placements.”

Final remarks from the Principal

Clive commented on the evening saying: “One of the best things about working at Uxbridge College is finding out even more about our amazing students and listening to just some of the brilliant things they are doing to prepare for their next steps and set themselves up for a fantastic future. It is so encouraging to see them achieve and succeed. Uxbridge College really is the place for students to thrive!”
