Uxbridge College Student Weighs up his Success!
Sports student and weightlifter Nam Ahmadi is training with an eye on the Olympics.
Nam, 18, has been selected for the Team GB development camp, which provides a pathway to Olympic competition, with those who do well progressing to the elite squad. He also hopes to qualify for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and the European Weightlifting Championships, and was recently awarded a £5,000 Gold Bursary Award in the annual Hillingdon Mayor’s Sports Awards.
Nam said: “It’s a great experience training at this level - the environment really encourages you to do your best. The top lifters come and train there so you get a chance to see what they do and to learn from them. You’re there with people who really want to train and that is really motivating.”
Last year saw Nam break the U18 clean and jerk British Record three times. In October at the British U18 Championships he grabbed first place and smashed the clean and jerk record and just missed breaking British total record. He aims to break at least two more British records this year.
